Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system of medicine that's been practised for over 2,000 years. It works by inserting fine needles at precise points on the body to help re-balance and support the body's own healing process. Sometimes I'll add heat, suction, or gentle electrical stimulation, depending on what you need.
-
Yes, acupuncture is extremely safe, especially in the hands of a properly qualified practitioner. Every needle I use is sterile and single-use. I'm registered with the AFPA and fully insured, so you can relax knowing you're in safe hands.
-
Acupuncture needles are much finer than the ones used for injections, so most people find treatment relatively pain-free. You might feel a small tingling sensation when a needle reaches the correct point which is a positive sign.
-
I'll start with a full assessment before any needles go in, asking about your health, lifestyle, sleep, and habits, and taking a look at your tongue and pulse, which are key parts of diagnosis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. From there, I'll explain where I plan to needle. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, come fed and hydrated, and avoid alcohol or being overly caffeinated beforehand.
-
It depends on what we're treating. A recent issue, like a headache that's just come on, often responds faster than a long-standing condition. Each treatment builds on the last, so most people start to notice a difference after 3–4 sessions.
-
This really depends on how you arrive. If you come in stressed, you'll usually leave calmer; if you're low on energy, you should leave feeling more energised. With longer-standing conditions, change tends to be more gradual, so don't worry if you don't feel a dramatic difference straight away. Treatment can sometimes bring emotions to the surface too, that's a normal part of the process, and often part of the healing itself.

Yes. As a registered acupuncturist with the AFPA, my receipts are valid with most private health insurers. It's worth checking your own level of cover with your provider before booking if you’re depending on the claim.
